Naivasha, located about 92.6 km northwest of Nairobi is a small town, but boasts of hosting many tourists and tourism activities compared to some other bigger towns. The town is located at the shores of Lake Naivasha after which the town is named. Naivasha is derived from a Maasai word ‘enaiposha’ meaning ‘that which heaves’ a common Maasai word for bodies of water larger enough to have wave action when it is windy or stormy. The population of the town stands at approximately 198,000 as per the 2019 census.

- Boat Ride in Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha, being a fresh water lake, hosts numerous hippos which can be sighted on the boat ride trip and hordes of bird species. Scores of wildlife can be found at the shores of the lake which include giraffes, water buck, wildebeest and many others.
- Hells Gate National Park
The park was established in 1984. Although it is a small park, it is a home to a variety of wildlife. Hells Gate National park borders the Geothermal Power Station at Olkaria. The famous gorges are also found at Hells Gate. The gorges are currently out of bounds to the public, otherwise, hiking was a good activity at the park. Biking is a favourite activity in the park. Bicycles are hired at a small fee.
- Geothermal Spa
The Geothermal hosts a natural spa which is the only one in Africa and has medicinal value. You can immense yourself in the natural spa!
- Lake Oloiden
The lake, though smaller in size was once part of Lake Naivasha. A stretch of about 200 meters of raised ground separates the two lakes. The calm and peaceful lake is home to a number of different birds species including African fish eagle and splendid pelicans. Oloiden in the local Masai languge means ‘salty’. The lake is a gem and has a wonderful scenery. A boat ride in the lake gives you a refreshing experience. The beautiful grounds at the lake are suitable for camping and occasions e.g. weddings, birthday parties and baby showers.
- Crescent Island
The island is accessible by boat only. The Island hosts a variety of wildlife including zebras, giraffes, deer and wildebeest. You get a feeling of mingling with the animals since they are up close. It is a good place for hiking. Fishing can be carried out at the island but you must obtain authority from the relevant bodies.
- Crater Lake Sanctuary
The lake is located in a private sanctuary, off Moi south road. Within the sanctuary is a mid range tented camp – the Crater Lake Tented Camp.
- Mai Mahiu Catholic Church
The small church located on the Mai Mahiu Naivasha Road was built in 1942 by the Italian prisoners. It is the smallest church in the country, with only 4 wooden pews. The church dates back to the colonial days and its age and size fascinate many visitors. Some visitors enter for expedition while others for prayers.
The Italian and Kenyan governments, as well as well wishers maintain the church.
- Kenya Wildlife Service Training Institute
The institute, located on Moi South Road was opened in 1985. It was set up as an in service training institute for the then departments of wildlife and fisheries under the Ministry of Wildlife. Today, the institute offers diploma and certificate courses in wildlife and hospitality.
- Longonot Hiking
Mount Longonot is an extinct volcano located southeast of Naivasha. The mountain is thought to have erupted in 1860 The mountain is known for hiking trails. To hike the mountain, you need to have done warm ups.
- Raptor Centre
This is a rescue centre for injured birds.
