Amboseli National park is located in the southern part of Kenya, which is in Loitoktok County, Rift Valley. The name “Amboseli” comes from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust”.
The park is 39,206 ha (392.06 square km). It is accessible via Mombasa road through Emali to Kimana Gate, or Namanga Arusha road.
Amboseli National Park is the only park in Kenya where you have the advantage of viewing large herds of elephants up close. The towering ice-capped Mount Kilimanjaro is another attraction in Amboseli. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
The park is divided into 3 main sections namely. The said sections include the savannah where you find wildlife including elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, cheetah, and gazelles. The lakes found in the heart of the park as a result of water filtering underground from the ice-capped Mount Kilimanjaro. The lakes host a variety of bird species including flamingoes. The observation hill which offers a sweeping view of the entire park.
Amboseli National park is famed for being the best place in the world where free-range elephants can be viewed at a very close range.
